The City of Converse is located just west of Randolph Air Force Base. It was founded by German settlers in 1877 as a result of railroad construction and was incorporated as a city in 1961. It is only 7.3 square miles in size but has a population of more than 18,000 people. The City of Converse is only a stone’s throw from Live Oak, Schertz, Universal City, Windcrest and shares a border with Randolph Air Force Base.
Converse is strict with its traffic laws. Given its boundary along Loop 1604 and close proximity to Randolph Air Force Base, the Converse Police Department patrols aggressively; especially along access roads to 1604 and the main arteries into and out of the small city. Experience of prior clients confirms the officers are typically polite when giving a Converse traffic ticket, but are still not the caliber of officers as found on the San Antonio Police Department force. The primary purpose for administering tickets seems to be an authentic mix of keeping motorists’ speeds down and generating revenue for the city.
The Converse Municipal Court is in the Ed J. Kneupper Justice Center located at 402 South Seguin Rd. The court is currently presided over by Judge Robert Ramirez, and it has jurisdiction to rule over Converse traffic tickets, speeding tickets, moving violations, public intoxication charges, minor in possession MIP charges and any other statutory misdemeanors within the city limits.
