SAVE TIME! DON’T STAND IN LINE!
I was recently asked by a potential client what benefit he would actually receive by hiring my firm to help him resolve his traffic ticket. There are many different reasons it can be beneficial to hire an attorney to resolve your speeding ticket. Perhaps the most beneficial would be saving your valuable time. This is especially true if you are an individual who bills on an hourly basis for your time, or a salaried individual who would have to take time off work to resolve a traffic ticket. After all, Benjamin Franklin wsa right when he said “Time is Money”.
Over the last year, I have resolved over two hundred traffic tickets. What I have found is that for me, someone who attends multiple traffic ticket courts every single week and intimately knows the procedures, it takes about 1.5 to 3 hours to resolve all the tickets I have for that day in any given traffic court. Occasionally, I can walk into a traffic court, cut a deal with a prosecutor, get the judge to sign off on the deal and be out in under half an hour; however, this is extremely rare. The fact of the matter is most traffic ticket courts are extraordinarily disorganized and very poorly run. Universal City Municipal Court tops my list of incompetent court administrators, resulting in lost files and an enormous waste of time. Also near the top of my list are Bexar County JP 1 Info and Bexar County JP 2 Info. While the judges in these courts are delightful people and very good at what they do, my average wait time to take care of a single ticket is two hours and forty five minutes. It is not uncommon for me to discover the court clerks cannot find files or fax’s I have sent to them prior to appearing. The question you must ask yourself is whether you want to deal with long lines, disorganized files, discourteous court clerks and just a general waste of time.
To be fair, taking care of a speeding tickets is not too bad of an ordeal in the San Antonio Municipal Court or Bexar County JP 3 Info, if you are an attorney. These courts actually understand the value of an attorney’s time and have set up special procedures to move attorney’s through the system quickly. The court clerks, administrators and prosecutors also are generally very friendly at the San Antonio Municipal Court, Bexar County JP 3 Info and Bexar County Precinct 4. This is not to say it is equally quick for citizens taking care of traffic tickets themselves. With any traffic ticket court, a person opting to go down to the court and resolve the ticket himself should reserve a minimum of three hours or half a working day. Individuals should also expect to have to go back more than one time with many courts because of lost files, traffic tickets not yet turned in by the appearance date designated on your copy of the traffic ticket or police officers not showing up.
In later blog entries I will discuss other benefits to hiring an attorney to take care of your traffic ticket for you. Again, I would say one of the best benefits is saving your precious time. In short, if you are an individual who truly has more time than money, it is probably worthwhile to attempt to resolve any speeding ticket you received yourself. This is of course as long as you follow the rule to never ever plead guilty to a traffic ticket – always not guilty or no contest. On the other hand, if you are an individual who values her time and doesn’t mind paying around one hundred fifty dollars for professional services that will remove the headache of taking care of a traffic ticket and all the headaches that come with it, then hiring The Coquat Law Firm is probably a great idea.
