The history of Ten Years of Toyota in San Antonio.

Toyota began looking into building a plant in Texas back in 2003. Then they contacted state officials and eventually decided to build their new plant in San Antonio, Texas. Once the decision had been made:

the announcement was made at the Institute of Texan Cultures, and on October 17, 2003, construction began on what is now the sprawling Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas facility off Applewhite Road.

The Ten Years of Toyota in San Antonio started with that groundbreaking of the $1 Billion plant.

The economic side of Ten Years of Toyota in San Antonio.

After the groundbreaking and construction, the Toyota plant eventually opened in 2006. As many of our readers will remember this was the just before the beginning of the economic recession. When the recession hit, it initially made the Toyota plant appear to be a poor decision. Toyota responded by cutting production at the plant and it looked like we might not get to celebrate Ten Years of Toyota in San Antonio.

Eventually the economy began to recover and the Toyota plant has been booming ever since. Currently the plant is looking to produce over 200,000 new Toyota vehicles for the second consecutive year.

In celebrating the Ten Years of Toyota in San Antonio, it is important to remember the industrial development and growing number of jobs it has provided.
